Our fearless Governor, Sonny Perdue, decided on Friday to get a jump on Hurricane Rita by asking Georgia schools to take two early "snow days", thereby saving on the gasoline that normally would be used to move the little sociopaths to and from school.

In other words, he decided to telegraph to the world that gas was going to be scarce in Georgia come Monday (today). The panic buying of gasoline began immediately, so that the CostCo I use was out of gasoline by 5:00 PM.

Oh, and Monday morning was rainy, so commute times were doubled, leading to large amounts of gas being idled away. And Rita missed Galveston anyway, so the gas shortages are not going to materialize. And the gas panic after Katrina was a one-day thing anyway.

Gee. Thanks, Sonny. You bozo.

This is his second faux pas, IMHO. Last month he attended a ceremony to honor GA servicemen killed in action in Iraq. Standing before the crowd, he began to blubber on camera. A perfect Oprah moment. What's happening here? Why can't a Governor of a pretty conservative Southern state get up and give a fire-and-brimstone sppech about fallen heroes and the massive smiting of enemies? That would certainly have been better than the share your feelings, therapeutic moment we got. Zarqawi or bin Ladin are not giving tearful eulogies over the charred remains of their suicide bombers. Instead they're watching Sonny and trying to calculate what amount of American blood will finally push him out of Iraq. I guarantee you that his tears killed American soldiers.

I think it all comes down to the Georgia state flag. The flaggots tossed Roy Barnes (good!) for Sonny because Sonny promised a return to the Stars and Bars on the Georgia flag. Instead we got the Georgia seal. Sonny's not up for taking the scolding he'd have gotten from Her Eminence, the Career Widow, Coretta, nor from Lewis, McKinney, Lowry, etc., etc. Well and good, but not good enough to satisfy the flaggots. Them lost, Sonny is reduced to begging for votes from the Emory crowd and their ilk via tearful rememberance ceremonies and gas-saving days.

All he's really doing, IMHO, is demonstrating that he'd be in favor of cannibalism, if it had a large enough constituency.

Oh, and he's lost re-election. Mark it. You heard it here first.

This is utterly disgusting! From a Kerry Democrat, of course.

I mean, 50+ people were killed in a terrorist bombing. Of course the police are going to be extra vigilant for a long time to come.

So. Does he mean that Americans over-reacted to 3000 dead, or that Brits over-reacted to 50+ dead? And what does that mean to his favorite Spanish train stations, etc.

The dead matter to the extent that they generate support for the Democrat party. Russ cares nothing, really, as long as he can buy new phones, unimpeded.

What a bozo.

Last night I caught a debate on CSPAN. George Galloway against Christopher Hitchens over the war in Iraq.

The arguments:

Hitchens to Galloway: The US war on terror has liberated 50+ million people. If the anti-war left had had its way, Iraq would still be a concentration camp sitting on top of a mass grave. Galloway has taken bribes from Saddam, and now he's slobbering on Boy Assad's hand. Freedom is breaking out because of George Bush and Tony Blair. (Boos form the audience.)

Galloway to Hitchens: You're a pooh-head. (Cheers from the audience.)

The left did not cover itself in glory.

The big issue for the last couple of weeks has been the massive disgrace in New Orleans. I've hesitated to comment, but here goes.

It looks like the Mayor of New Oreleans and the Governor of Louisiana behaved terribly badly. The Mayor failed to evacuate the city. The Superdome, the staging point for the eventual evacuation, was left unpoliced and quickly degenerated into a free-for-all nightmare of rape and theft. Faced with this, the Mayor beat an hysterical retreat to Baton Rouge from his luxury New Orleans hotel suite, while the Governor failed to activate the National Guard, preferring to descend into public, teary self-justification.

And who's getting the blame? Well, the President, of course. The one man who kept his head in the entire crisis. The people beating on him fail to mention that the Constitution keeps Federal troops out of the states until requested. That's exactly how it went down. Can you imagine the uproar if a white male President had usurped a female Governor and a black Mayor?

Something else to consider is the contrast with Mississippi, and Alabama. The destruction of Gulfport, Biloxi, et al., was near total. Yet there was no rape, no looting, no lawlessness. Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi reacted as a Governor should, and kept law and order. End result? Mississippi is not interesting to the MSM.

Bottom line: Democrat politicians totally failed their constituents. The MSM protected them by blaming the available Republican.

In recent days, a new leftist line is emerging: Were it not for Iraq, New Orleans wouldn't have suffered so badly. The left has so far failed to get any traction in its criticism of the war on terror. They're hoping this will given them an in. Mind you, I think the left fails to understand that what it's really saying is that black people suffered because white people decided to give all the money to the A-rabs (add your own redneck accent of choice). I'm not sure the Democrat party wants to go this racist way, but in recent years they've demonstrated a complete willingness to do anything that'll win.
