Hurricane Porn.

Am I the only person who went to sleep last night to the sound of WSB telling us that by morning NOLA would be under 10 feet of oil/sewage/pollution-laced water?

I mean, as I was going to sleep, Mrs LivinInAmerica was showing me simulated video ("Oh Baby!") of Katrina scoring ("Scoring!") a direct hit ("Yeah baby, give poppa that money shot!") on NOLA.

Yuck!

UPDATE: This morning we've got 30 people dead in an apartment complex in Biloxi, MS. Naturally, there are mics and cameras in the faces of the survivors, sucking up alllllll the grief.

Sad day for Ireland.

Growing up in Ireland in the 1970's, *the* topic of conversation was "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. With groups likethe UVF on one side, and the IRA on the other, you could see nothing in Northern Ireland's future but sectarian violence.

On this, score one for the socialists. Gerry Fitt, and his Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), was a lonely voice asking people to put the religious and historical differences aside, in order to have a better present and future. He was the one politician out of Northern Ireland I ever took as honest.

I'm sad to see him go.

Well, it looks like Eric Robert Rudolph will be getting his three hots and a cot in a SuperMax facility for the rest of his life. Good.

I was working in Japan for most of the Olympics. I came back to Atlanta two or three days before the end of the Olympics, just in time for this nut to explode his bomb.

I seem to remember that a Turkish journalist died of a heart attack after the bomb went off. I think he's as much a victim as anyone, but he gets no coverage. Not enough blood, I guess.

So, Peter Jennings is dead.

De mortuis nil nisi bonum, and all that, but I hope someone will remember his left-wing bias and mistrust of the democratic process, his licking of Castro's boots, his apologies for the murderous thugs at the 1972 Munich Olympics, and his affair with terror-enabler Hanan Ashrawi.

UPDATE: More-complete coverage of Jennings' bias.

A quick report on recent voting in Venezuela.

You know, the country run by Jimmy Carter's current favorite dictator.

Reading Publius Pundit, you might get the impression that Hugo Chavez is a little less than popular. Given that, you just have to love this quote from the Guardian:

"Recent polls suggest Chavez has about 70-percent popularity, but it was unclear whether that would translate into a resounding victory for pro-Chavez politicians."

Clue for the clueless: the absence of a resounding victory may indicate the popularity numbers are a bit, oh, skewed.

You know, when you contrast Jimmy's comments on Chavez with his comments on President Bush, you really get to understand what a total political pimp he is. This is the man who gave Khomeini his start. Not satisfied with that, he's spent his life since advancing the cause of every vicious, America-hating thug he could drag in front of a video camera. Fidel? A great guy, according to Jimmy. Kim Jong Il? Give him nukes, according to Jimmy.

I continue to be ashamed that the Carter Center is a couple of miles from my house.

Yes, I did spend all weekend following this.

I'm so happy those Russians made it out alive. If you followed the Kursk tragedy of some years ago, you know the Russians behaved totally differently this time around.

I did hear an American Admiral describe how the US and the USSR now regularly conduct joint submarine operations, including rescue operations. Maybe these gave Putin the level of comfort to call for help. Well, good.

So, what is this?

Yes, it's the next disruptive tchnology: your way to slip the surly bonds of earth, and your local taxing authority.

God luck!

We hates the right wing!

We hates it, we hates, it, we hates it for ever!

Godwin would be proud. As would David Duke.

I never cease to be amazed at how quickly the left descends to the level of shit-flinging monkey rage. If you don't agree with the left, you're the latest incarnation of the Völkischer Beobachter. That, or you're an uppity filipina who's successful because you have - in the words of the left's intellectual leadership - "tits".

Would that they could be a little more measured in their criticisms. But they can't: they're not up for intellectual discussion, they're up for conversion - by force, if necessary.

It's no wonder that 9/11/01 finally gave the left a religion it could admire.

This is a slighlty sarky article. Even so, it can't put a damper on this: Atlanta's getting an aquarium!

I'm so happy for Bernie Marcus! He starts a company here in Atlanta, and it makes him rich as Croesus. Then he gets to indulge a hobby and provide edification and joy for uncounted millions of people.

What a man! What a city! What a country!

Every day I wake up and thank God I'm an American.

So, the Fulton County sheriff has started firing people, in the wake of Brian Nichols' rampage.

Reading the news report, I find myself marveling that Atlanta actually had a police officer called "Lucious Johnson"?

And the Police Union representative is "Rambo"?

And did the Sheriff actually say "Hopefully, this is a cornerstone we can turn"?

My oh my. Looks to me like the FuCo Sheriff's office is not staffed by the cream of humanity's intellectual crop.

Cats sleeping with dogs! Lambs laying down with lions! Patrick agreeing with Jesse Jackson!

Today's AJC quoted Jackson as saying "The right to vote is not in danger, but we must protect it against discrimination."

Compare this with John Lewis, who said: "Forty years later, we're still marching for the right to vote." What utter crap. He knows as wll as anyone that the right to vote is not in danger. He just loves the overheated rhetoric.

In other news, a good friend of mine tells me that Vernon Jones' "Crackers Out!" policy is now affecting the DeKalb County school system.

When will they learn? Never, of course. Not while there's a taxpayer to squeeze to pay for the lawyers to defend against the discrimination lawsuit. The local news media won't say anything, that's for sure.

UPDATE: Harry Belafonte is insane with hatred. And he has company.

I'm not trying to blame the victim, or anything, but something feels not quite righ about this story.

I'd like to know a lot more about how they ended up in the stairwell together.

UPDATE: Heard on the news this morning that the "victim" and "rapist" exchanged phone numbers after exchanging intimacies in the stairwell.

The former Rapist-in-Chief was in town yesterday.

Money quote: "I think the right to vote is in danger. It's wrong. It's un-American."

Typical Democrat politics: tell lies to inspire fear and bolster support.

Traffic in Atlanta: Ugh!

This morning a tractor-trailer flipped on the inner loop of I-285 at the Ashford-Dunwoody exit. Its load of windshields were dumped across the inner loop, and into the outer loop. Result: gridlock across north Atlanta. My 30 minute commute turned into 90.

Of course, it doesn't help that there are three huge conventions happening in town right now.

I hear about this after it's happened. Naturally.

Pity, that. It sounds like it was a good time.

"Islamakazi." What a good name! It's got the Kamikaze thing, but the use of "kazi" gets us going to "khazi" which is where the jihad actually belongs.
