Sad day for Ireland.

Growing up in Ireland in the 1970's, *the* topic of conversation was "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. With groups likethe UVF on one side, and the IRA on the other, you could see nothing in Northern Ireland's future but sectarian violence.

On this, score one for the socialists. Gerry Fitt, and his Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), was a lonely voice asking people to put the religious and historical differences aside, in order to have a better present and future. He was the one politician out of Northern Ireland I ever took as honest.

I'm sad to see him go.
