So, on the way home from work I stopped at Publix for a bit of comfort food (nobody does a better takeout buffalo wing) and in the checkout line got to talking to one of those indomitable old Southern Ladies one rarely, and therefore so happily meets.

It being that time of year, we got to talking about changes in the world, and I mentioned that this was the first time since 1919 that England had no veteran of the First Great Unpleasantness to celebrate victory over The Hun.

And then it struck me.

To be a vet of 1918, he'd probably been born in the late 1800s. So, he had a life that spanned three centuries and one millennium. How awesome is that!?!?!!!!

In his time the world went from horses to cars; from ocean liners to Boeing 757s; from Marconi to Verizon; from artillery to ICBM; from Victoria to QE II (not much change there, but the kids, oy!); from Empire to European decadence; from Earth to Moon.

And so on.

You know, the pace of technological change will only continue to increase. We may well have WWII vets alive in 2975.

Oh. But Jeez. Jane Fonda might make it too. Ugh.
