So, the President makes a speech in Tel Aviv, wherein he denounced people who would negotiate with terrorists.

Obama makes his first mistake: Assuming the comments are about him.

This leads to a couple of days of "I would not negotiate with terrorists. I would negotiate with those who sponsor terrorism." WTF, over? So, first Obama self-identifies as the target (the President never mentioned him by name - he could have been talking about the EU, for all Obama knew), and then he gets into this hair-splitting, angels dancing on a pin argument.

This leads to his second mistake: This whole "If George Bush and John McCain..." rhetoric doesn't serve him well. When he brings up those two names, all he does is remind the world of his comparative callow fecklessness.

The man walked right into a political trap, and then started digging. The mullahs would eat him alive. Not ready for prime time, I'm afraid.

Comments:
Given that Carter had just sat down to negotiate with terrorists before the comments, it is indeed odd and spacey that Obama assumed he was the target.
