Today's AJC has Hillary Clinton on the front cover. She wants to be President. How unexpected.
Reading the article, I had all kinds of thoughts about this. Stream of consciousness follows.
- Hillary's campaign strategy is to "have a conversation." Reminds me of the "listening tour" that got her elected in New York. It's a good strategy, in that it puts the focus on policy issues, rather than her abysmal morals. That said, we will be hearing about cattle futures, Rose Law Firm billing records, Whitewater, etc., all over again.
- Of course, Hillary's got copies of those 900 FBI files. By the time she's finished with her opponents, or anyone who does a negative piece on her, their own mother's won't recognize them. I mean, I can see her turning Obama into a drug-addled Islamist.
- What a vacuous collection of candidates the Democrats are getting ready to field. Obama's a pretty face, little more. Bill Richardson oversaw the wholesale transfer of nuclear secrets to the People's Republic of China (you know, the guys who just shot down a satellite). John Edwards is a pretty face and an empty suit who likes to bash Wal Mart before begging to be put first in line for a PS3 at Wal Mart. In a field like this, Hillary may well be the best-qualified candidate.
- What's Hillary going to do for a running mate? The press would swoon over a Hillary/Obama ticket. But would America go for a ticket like that? Probably not. Besides, Hillary isn't going to want to share with a drug-addled Islamist.
- The same AJC article listed three Republican candidates: McCain, Giuliani, and Romney. McCain's an avowed enemy of free speech, and he's looking ooooooooooooold. Giuliani's stance on abortion and gay rights will kill him - and wait 'til the pictures of him in drag hit. Romney's quite the conservative, but he's a Mormon. Of these three, I think Romney will play best with the Republican base.
- She needs a voice coach. Every time she opens her mouth she sounds *harsh*.
- My gut tells me Hillary will win. She's going to have the press behind her. She can claim her past has been completely aired. She has the ability and willingness to utterly destroy any opponents. The reuse of the "listening tour" strategy is brilliant. All this is up against a Republican party that has recently distinguished itself as utterly venal.
- So she wins. So what? At that point her goal is accomplished: her place in history is assured. It's not like she wants to actually accomplish anything.
