There goes nuclear non-proliferation.

Once the gargoyle explodes his bomb, the Japanese will start their own nuclear weapons project.

Think about that for a second. Japan rearmed, with nukes. That will send a chill through Asia. There's some history there.

I lived in Japan for a while. The closest experience that compares is when I was in the military: there's a pecking order, and everyone knows who's got the bigger pecker. (Rimshot!)

Also consider: The Japanese economy's been pretty stagnant for more than a decade.

It's not Weimar by any means, but it wouldn't take much for rearmed Japan to become militaristic Japan.

I wonder why China has given up on attempting to influence North Korea. I think part of it might be a calculation that Japan's rearming would push much of Southeast Asia into China's orbit. When you consider that the US and India have recently been working on defense agreeements, this might well be the Chinese response.

It's a beautiful bit of wu-wei. The US acts. India acts. North Korea acts. Japan acts. China does nothing, and the rest of Southeast Asia flocks to it as protector.
